The #universityoffirstchoiceforall celebrates Allan Musa Mpansi, a visionary alumnus whose expertise in industrial automation is setting new standards in the mining sector across the continent.
A 2025 First Class Bachelor of Science Honours in Industrial Physics and Instrumentation graduate, Allan has built a career defined by rapid growth and technical mastery. His professional journey began in the manufacturing sector at Delta Beverages, where he served as an Instrumentation and Control Technician at the Harare Lagers Plant and later as a Packaging Shift Leader at the Kwekwe Chibuku Super Plant.
Today, Allan is a Product Specialist for Automation at Sandvik Mining RSA, overseeing the Southern Africa Region. In this role, he supports complex automation projects across Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia.
His career is marked by several historic milestones:
Pioneered the world’s first Mining Automation Project in a room and pillar setup at one of Zimbabwe’s largest platinum mines.
Led a major automation upgrade from the Multi-Lite System to the Fleet Mission Control System (MCS) featuring Advanced Traffic Control.
Completed specialised AutoMine training in Finland for Sandvik Load and Haul products.
Allan’s academic excellence earned him the MSU Book Prize and the Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe (RPAZ) award for the best student in his program. These honours reflect his dedication to a field that demands precision and innovation.
Reflecting on his time at MSU, Allan remembers the moment he realised his degree was a gateway to solving real-world problems.
